Practical guidance, supports and resources for families at Scoil Muire Doireglinne

Supporting Your Child’s Journey Through Primary School

At Scoil Muire Doireglinne, we work closely with parents to ensure every child feels safe, supported and encouraged to reach their full potential. Our school community values communication, partnership and a shared commitment to learning. This page brings together the key information families need throughout the school year, from daily routines and safety procedures to school meals, transport and access to important documents. At Scoil Muire Doireglinne, we operate two multigrade classrooms that provide exceptional educational benefits for every child.

Our Multigrade Advantage

Our multigrade structure creates unique opportunities for pre-teaching and re-teaching, allowing children to work at their own pace while benefiting from peer tutoring and cross-grade collaboration. This approach develops independence, responsibility, cooperation, and leadership skills while enabling deep teacher-student relationships that support both academic achievement and personal growth.

School Day and Routines

Our school day begins at 8:50am and finishes at 2:30pm, with Junior Infants finishing at 1:30pm. Breaks take place at 10:50am and 12:30pm. Pupils are encouraged to arrive on time, bring a healthy lunch and come prepared for learning each day. Regular routines help children feel secure and confident in school life.

Hot Lunches Programme

Scoil Muire Doireglinne is part of the Hot Lunches programme under the Government School Meals Scheme. Every child receives a nutritious hot meal each day, supporting wellbeing, concentration and healthy habits. Menus are varied, balanced and child‑friendly, ensuring pupils enjoy a warm meal during the school day.

School Transport from Oughterard

A dedicated school bus operates daily from Oughterard, providing a safe and reliable transport option for families. The service follows a set route and timetable, making it easier for pupils to travel to and from school. Parents can contact the school office for details on stops, times and availability.
